Albion are on their way back to The Hawthorns after their controversial tour of the US finished with a bang – literally!
The Baggies’ 2-1 victory against Richmond Kickers was delayed by more than an hour after a lightning storm forced the players off the field for safety reasons.
When play finally commenced, James McClean scored a long-range effort before Brown Ideye made it two in two games for the striker with a late header to give Albion a winning end to their tour.
McClean found himself in the headlines after he refused to acknowledge the National Anthem during Albion’s 2-1 victory against Charlestown Battery. The Republic of Ireland international initially turned around when God Save the Queen began before turning his back and bowing his head.
The new signing has been branded ‘scum’ by some reports and Baggies boss Tony Pulis has called for McClean to show more respect in future.
In Albion’s first game of the tour, they were beaten 3-1 by MLS side Orlando City.
The first team squad is expected back in the Midlands on Tuesday with Albion’s next pre-season fixture planned for 28th July against neighbours Walsall at the Banks’ Stadium.
Meanwhile, Albion striker Georgios Samaras has been released from his contract after making only eight appearances for the club.
