Martin Albrechtsen has opened talks with the club hoping to extend his Baggies stay. The Danish defender, who has played the majority of his football at centre-half this season, has opened negotiations claiming Albion fans have yet to witness the best of his talents.

Signed from Danish outfit FC Copenhagen in June 2004 for a then club record fee of £2.7 million pounds, 'Alby's' contract was due to expire this summer. However after making more than 100 starts for the club the defender insists there is more to come.

"We have started talking about a new contract but we've only had one meeting so it's still at an early stage," Albrechtsen said.

"I would like to stay in England, definitely - that's my first priority.

"If I can stay here then great but obviously the contract has to be as I like it, or close to it.

"Ideally, I'd like to stay here.

"I haven't shown people what I can do," the Dane stressed.

"I played at the start of the season - but not to my best.

"I feel I can improve and show more."
