"I won't start judging myself just yet or when I return, because I don't think people will see the real Michael Appleton until next season," he said.
"I hope to be back training properly in the next six weeks and may be knocking on the first-team door sometime around March.
"But I won't be putting pressure on myself until next season. It takes six or seven months to get back to peak condition after returning from an injury from this and I'd be wrong to think otherwise.
"There will be no miracles but I do feel confident in myself and know that I can see the finishing line --because at one point I didn't think I'd play this season.
"And maybe I will surprise myself. I'm sure when the first tackle goes in I'll be up for it as if I've never been away."
