West Brom have released central defender Chris Perry after just one season at The Hawthorns. The 34-year-old, who joined the Baggies from Charlton last summer, made 27 appearances including being in the starting line-up for the Championship play-off final defeat by Derby on Monday. But he did not reach the number of games needed - believed to be 30 - to automatically activate the second year of his contract and Albion boss Tony Mowbray has decided to release the ex Tottenham player. Perry began the campaign in the starting line-up but suffered a loss of form and was also allegedly involved in an angry exchange with a member of the coaching staff. He only returned to the side in the latter part of the season after injuries to Curtis Davies and Neil Clement. Albion are waiting to see what the situation is regarding defender Sam Sodje who has returned to Reading following his loan spell with the club.
