Matty Phillips' 87th minute stunning volley earned Albion a point at Nottingham Forest after the Baggies were under the cosh for most of the game.
Forest failed to press home their advantage and were fortunate to take the lead when Adlene Guedioura's long-range shot deflected past Sam Johnstone into the corner of the net.
The Albion keeper had to be at his acrobatic best to keep out an audious effort from his own half from Guedioura before Albion's new signing Dwight Gayle was introduced.
Gayle offered a different dimension up front for the Baggies and struck the post with his first effort from a close range shot.
As Albion finally found some attacking imputus, Phillips smashed home Kieran Gibbs' cross before a frantic finish.
Phillips rattled the woodwork with a cross that decived Forest stopper Pantilimon before Harvey Barnes rattled the bar with a follow up effort. At the other end, Jake Livermore did had to head Lewis Grabbon's header off the line after a Forest corner.
