West Brom have rejected a transfer request from skipper and central defender Curtis Davies, who is reportedly wanted by Tottenham. The England Under-21 player, who is recovering from a broken metatarsal, has made it clear he sees his future in the Premier League, but Albion boss Tony Mowbray insisted the former Luton player will only be allowed to leave if an interested club makes an offer the Baggies find it impossible to refuse. Last summer Mowbray's predecessor Bryan Robson rejected an £8.5million bid from Portsmouth for Davies, who is also understood to be interesting Spurs boss Martin Jol.
Mowbray said: "I have had a conversation with Curtis and he's sensible enough to realise the price has got to be right for us to even consider letting him go. He is someone I admire as a player and a person. He's the club captain and I would very much like him to stay at West Brom and lead the team next season. I've always said I only want players here who want to play for the club but that doesn't mean to say we're going to let players walk away. In the past 12 months precedents have been set whereby defenders have moved for big fees and we rate Curtis very highly."
Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has already intimated the club will only allow their leading players to leave for "head-turning prices". Davies moved to Albion from Luton for £3million two seasons ago and has quickly developed into one of the country's most promising defenders.
