Leon Barnett hopes to be one of Tony Mowbray's squad members called upon against Manchester City after the Baggies boss admitted yesterday that changes will be made on Sunday (KO 1.30pm).
Mowbray admitted after the Baggies' hammering at The Stadium of Light that fringe players will be give their chance against Mark Hughes' men with Barnett raring to go after recovering from a knee problem.
The former Luton Town man had been an ever present for Albion until he was dropped after the defeat to Aston Villa and has had to settle for a watching berth since. However, after watching current defensive pair Jonas Olsson and Abdoulaye Meite closely the 23-year-old believes he's now ready for first-team action again.
"This could definitely be my chance," Barnett admitted.
"There's a few of us sitting there, being patient and waiting but staying sharp just in case we're needed.
"The way we're going now people in the team have to be careful because there's a few of us waiting to come in if we get our chance.
"I was there myself in the first game and now I'm not.
"I don't like being on the bench but I'm not one of those to rage to the manager when I'm dropped. I just work extra hard.
"I've watched Jonas and Abou and I've tried to learn things.
"Both are experienced players.
"I try to take that into training and then onto the pitch if I ever need to.
"There are players who may get injured, suspended or lose their place - if and when that happens then I'm ready."
