Roman Bednar has revealed he has apologised to Roberto Di Matteo following his reaction to being subbed against Newcastle. The Czech striker was replaced in the 64th minute by Ishmael Miller despite scoring Albion’s second and his second in as many games.
The striker, who started only his second game in thirteen fixtures, felt he could’ve helped the Baggies to three points at St. James Park had he stayed on the pitch claiming he was having his best game of the season.
"I have already spoken to the gaffer and apologised," the striker revealed.
"I will not smile if he's taking me off but I probably overreacted.
“I felt I could win the game for for us.
"He took my apology well but he was upset with me. We're okay now.
"Apart from that, I think Monday was my best game this season.
"My fitness is okay and I'm scoring goals in training every day, so I'm happy."
The former Hearts front-man is now hoping to keep his starting place against the Magpies as they travel to The Hawthorns for the FA Cup fourth-round tie. Bednar, who reached the FA Cup semi-final with Albion, is relishing the break from league football but insisted the Baggies will be fully focused on reaching the next round.
“We'll approach Saturday's game the same way as Monday," he added.
"Perhaps we are more relaxed but this is a game we want to win.
"The promotion push is tough and it's a welcome thing to have a cup game, especially the FA Cup, which has a big history.
"We did well two years ago and it would be great to get to Wembley again.
"I hope we can play good football.
"We showed it at Newcastle and need to show it again.
"The cup run of two years ago went well with promotion.
"If you stick with your vision in the cup then you can do it in the league as well.
"We've seen two big clubs knocked out but this is the cup and you see that anything can happen.
"The cup can be crazy."
