Baggies chief Tony Mowbray reserved praise for Roman Bednar's performance against Fulham with the Czech striker bagging his first goal from open-play and securing Albion's second 1-0 victory. Bednar gave Fulham's defence a torrid time at The Hawthorns scoring the winner in the 61st minute and seeing an opportunist 40-yard effort smash off the crossbar.
The former Hearts man, who signed a permanent Baggies contract in the summer after a successive loan period last term, had already scored twice from the penalty spot this season after initially finding himself on the subs' bench at the start of the season. However an injury to Ishmael Miller gave Bednar his chance against West Ham with
"Roman works extremely hard for the side and every player has to work extremely hard," Mowbray said.
"Ishmael Miller has been unfortunate.
"He got himself injured after having chances to get on the scoresheet in the first three games.
"Then Roman comes in and scores a couple of penalties and a scrappy one today and he's off and running.
"His confidence is high and he's got great belief in himself.
"Let's hope he can continue scoring.
"But I'm sure the other strikers will score as we go along too."
