Albion captain Chris Brunt insists he and his teammates want to give Roy Hodgson another two wins before he departs to become England manager.
Hodgson will depart B71 immediately after the final game of the season after being announced as England manager on Tuesday afternoon.
But he will still take control of Albion’s final remaining two fixtures at Bolton on Sunday before his final game as Baggies boss against Arsenal a week later.
Brunt, who has retained the captain’s armband under Hodgson, said it was no real surprise Hodgson was recruited by the FA after his work at The Hawthorns.
“I don’t think there’s any real surprise among the players that he’s got the job,” said the Northern Ireland international.
“We’re all delighted for him, he’s been brilliant since he came in.
“His experience and his knowledge of the game – it really sorted us out at a time when things were going downhill a bit last season.
“What we want to do now is finish the season on a high note. It’s been difficult this week with all that’s gone on, but we want to keep our eye on the ball.
“We want to beat the points tally from last season and the gaffer will want us to finish in the top ten.
“A lot of fans will be coming up to Bolton because the last away game of the season is always a bit special.
“With them still being in the relegation battle we owe it to the clubs down there to put a shift in, the way we have against Blackburn, Queens Park Rangers and Villa in the last few weeks.”
