Battling Albion were unlucky to leave Turf Moor with only a point – despite having ten men for more than an hour.
After Semi Ajayi’s dismissal for handball, it was Albion who created the best chances and were left wondering how they failed to find the back of the net.
Here’s how we rated the players against Burnley.
Sam Johnstone – 7
Commanded his area well and wasn’t fazed by Burnley’s bombardment of crosses. Will be pleased with his first clean sheet away from The Hawthorns this season.
Darnell Furlong – 7
Much better defensively from Furlong. Too often this season his positioning has cost Albion when in transition. Defensively better as well.
Kyle Bartley – 7
This is his type of game. Happy to head the ball clear all day long. Was strong in the challenge but fortunate to not give a penalty away.
Conor Townsend – 7
Another solid display from one of Albion’s most consistent performers. Didn’t offer much offensively and had one wild effort early on.
Okay Yokuslu – 8 MOTM
Where would Albion be this season had he joined back in January. Threw himself into three crunching tackles in the first half and drove Albion on after the break.
Conor Gallagher – 6
Plenty of running from Gallagher but put Ajayi in real trouble with a terrible pass than led to his teammate’s dismissal.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 7
Struggled at first to impose himself on the game in the middle – bar one interception. Looked far more comfortable and threatening when Albion went down to ten men and he was shifted to the left.
Matt Phillips – 5
What has happened to Phillips? He was once a reliable Premier League footballer. Now he struggles with the most simple of passes. Was hooked after 30 mins when Albion were forced into a change after Ajayi’s sending off.
Matheus Pereira – 6
Was much better defensively than against United. But lacked that bit of quality Albion needed in the final third. Set piece delivery was absolutely atrocious.
Mbaye Diagne – 7
Was pretty anonymous first half. But showed some lovely one touch passes as Albion broke in the second half. Smashed one solo effort against the bar and squared to Pereira when he should’ve taken a shot.
SUBS
Dara O’Shea – 7
Has struggled at times this season but had a solid enough game when he was brought on after Ajayi’s red. Some stray passes at times, but wasn’t afraid to put his head where he might get hurt to protect Albion’s goal.
