Scott Carson has thanked Roberto Di Matteo for offering him the opportunity to captain the Baggies following Jonathan Greening’s departure to Fulham.  The 23-year-old England stopper was given the armband on Tuesday night and made a winning start against Peterborough United.

Di Matteo has confirmed Carson will now skipper the side when selected with Jonas Olsson named the vice-captain.

The former Leeds and Liverpool goalkeeper revealed he always hoped to captain a side and is ready to take on the responsibility of leading the Baggies.

"When the gaffer spoke to me before the game and asked if I wanted to be captain, I was delighted to get the chance," said Scott.

"For him to put his faith in me is a big positive and I'm very grateful for that, and I hope I can repay him.

"It's a great honour to captain this club and something I've always looked at doing at some time in my career.”
