Albion boss Steve Clarke believes Saturday’s game against Manchester City will not just be a tough physical battle.
Clarke claims his players will have to be on top of their game both physically and mentally if they are to challenge the champions.
The Baggies claimed a point against Roberto Mancini’s men last season at The Hawthorns after a wonderful rear-guard action saw Albion become the first team to keep a clean sheet against City.
Although Albion face a similarly tough test this weekend, it is one Clarke is relishing.
“You have to be right physically and mentally because the mental drain is big,” he said.
“For me it’s a great game.
“It’s the champions coming to our home ground.
“We look forward to the challenge.
“They are a top team, that’s why they’re champions.
“Last year they were the best team.
“They deservedly won the league.
“I know they made hard work of it towards the end but they’re a good team with a lot of really good players.
“It’s up to us to make sure we’re ready to give them a difficult match.”
