Neil Clement’s hopes of returning to first-team action look set to be in the balance after missing 16 months due to an articular cartilage defect in his right knee.
Albion’s longest serving player has already seen two specialists in the hope of returning to full training and is now awaiting the verdict from a third before deciding on his future.
The former Chelsea defender and the club have done everything within their means to try and help Clement step-up from light training duties, even using the latest revolutionary treatments in the process.
"Neil has seen the consultant," sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth revealed.
"He's had a couple of new, revolutionary treatments and we're trying every avenue.
"He's seen two different specialists in two different sorts of treatments.
"We're hoping to get an answer on the last one in the next week or so to see if it will enable him to fully compete (a return) or not.
"We're trying everything for Neil.
"We're conscious he's been here for nine years now.
"Neil and ourselves want to try every possible avenue to see whether he will be able to play professional football again and still have a career with us."
