'Confident' Carson back in England squad

Former England goalkeeper and now scout, Ray Clemence, says that Albion No.1, Scott Carson, has regained his confidence after the 23-year-old stopper was recalled into the national squad. The £3.25 million pound summer signing joins Pompy's David James and West Ham's Robert Green in competition for the 'keeper's jersey against Kazakhstan and Belarus.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham stopper watched Carson keep a second clean-sheet against Fulham on Saturday following a number of impressive performances between the sticks for the Baggies. Now on the back of a fine run of form Clemence believes Carson made the right move swapping Anfield for The Hawthorns in the summer.
"The move to West Brom has done Scott good, without a shadow of doubt," said Clemence.
"He did very well at Aston Villa last season but of course he was only on loan there.
"From a psychological point of view that's not good and then Villa decided they didn't want to take him.
"So he was left a little bit in limbo and then West Brom came in.
"I've seen him a number of times this season and you can see the lad's confidence growing week in, week out.
"I saw him again at the weekend when he played very well against Fulham.
"His confidence is right back to where it was over a year ago."
