Determination's the key for Robbo

Hard-hitting left-back Paul Robinson claims this season's team spirit played a huge part in the Baggies grinding out last night's dramatic 1-0 victory at Hillsborough. Albion had seen a number of chances come their way without finding a break through until James Morrison found the head of Kevin Phillips deep into injury time.

The result leaves Albion just a point behind Stoke City in second place after four clean sheets in the last five games promoted the Baggies back in the hunt of the top-two with a game in hand on their immediate rivals.

"All the games are tough in this league," said the Hawthorns left-back.

"You need to grind out results and we did that.

"We thoroughly deserved it in the end.

"We worked hard and pressed them.

"They defended really well and we have to give them a lot of credit because they made it tough for us.

"Our quality came out on top in the end."

He added: "The way we were conceding goals was discussed between the players.

"We know what we want to achieve this year and that's promotion.

"We're showing that now.

"There is a willingness and determination about us - not just the back four but the midfielders and strikers as well - to all work hard for each other.

"We're showing we're a team that wants to get promoted.

"I can see that in the eyes in the dressing room.

"There is a determination and hunger to come away with three points in every game,

"The lads are buzzing because these results sometimes don't come your way.

"But we felt we got the lucky breaks and deserved the three points."

Last season Albion were thumped 3-1 at Wednesday as they went on to secure a play-off final place with a team of individuals, however this year's squad's determination to secure promotion helped last night's heroes to three valuable points.

"Last season we would have lost that game," Robbo added.

"We got battered at Wednesday last year.

"But we've got that determination now as a group of lads rather than as individuals.

"We had some talented individuals last season who have gone onto bigger things in the Premier League - and fair play to them.

"We're now a group of players who are working hard together and have the desire.

"It's great to see that in the dressing room.

"It's great to be part of."
