Roberto Di Matteo admitted Albion’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest as their worst of the season as the visitors leapfrogged the Baggies into the automatic promotion places.
Goals from Dexter Blackstock, Radoslaw Majewski and Chris Cohen had put the visitors into a deserved 3-0 lead before Roman Bednar pulled a consolation back with 25 minutes left to play. Bednar’s goal however was too little, too late as Forest held on for a deserved victory with Di Matteo admitting a number of players failed to perform on the night.
"We didn't play tonight, which is unusual for us.
"There were quite a few players that didn't perform at the level they can.
"That affected our overall performance.
"The nature of the performance has shaken me a little because it's really unusual for us not to play.
"We couldn't string three passes together, which is very strange.
"It was probably the worst performance we've had.
"The statistics show that we're finding it tough against teams blocking up at our place - it is a theme.
"You're always frustrated when you lose and we're really disappointed.
"I'd like to say we tried to win the game - but we never really played tonight."
