Roberto Di Matteo has set about creating his list of transfer targets after the Baggies secured automatic promotion with three games to spare. With the Italian now safe in the knowledge what division he’ll be leading the club in next season, the Baggies boss is to confirm his summer transfer targets to chairman Jeremy Peace.
The former MK Dons chief insists he has no intention of selling any of his star players ahead of the Premier League campaign insisting he intends solely to strengthen the playing squad – although no targets have yet been identified.
"We scout players all the time but we haven't got any targets yet because we didn't know what division we were going to be in,” he revealed.
"We want to retain all of our best players and then we will probably need to strengthen the team for the Premier League.
"We are stepping up into a different league and there are some quality teams there with quality players.
"I have no numbers in my head. We will see.
"I will start that process in the next week or so.
"Up until now the most important thing was for me was to get promoted and not get distracted by anything else.
"We have got plenty of time now to think about our strategy.
"I know there needs to be some players added to this team but we will see what happens."
