Roberto Di Matteo revealed his pleasure at seeing his side reach the top of the table after a respectable draw at Bramall Lane.
Albion were just two minutes away from all three points but were denied by a disputable penalty two minutes from full-time. The result leaves both the Baggies and the Blades still unbeaten in the league but Albion one-point clear at the top of the Championship.
Roman Bednar marked his return to league football with a brace bagging goals in four second-half minutes. A lack of concentration cost the visitors a matter of seconds after Bednar had headed his first with Ched Evans equalising almost immediately.
Bednar’s second seemed to have given Albion a great away win against their Sheffield rivals but were denied by a questionable decision from referee Phil Crossely with David Cotterill making no mistake from the spot.
“It was a very good performance,” said Di Matteo after the final whistle.
"This is a tough place to come and play
"United put you under pressure.
"But we showed resilience against them and scored two goals.
"It's disappointing when you score twice away and don't win.
"But, at the end of the day, you have to give credit to United.
"We can't be too disappointed with ourselves when we are top of the table after five games.
"We'll try to keep our unbeaten run going for as long as possible.
"If I'm honest, it feels very good to be top of the league."
