Jonny Evans will replace Darren Fletcher as Albion's new club captain.
The former Manchester United and Northern Ireland international takes over the responsibility after his former team mate Fletcher left the club at the end of last season.
Baggies boss Tony Pulis says his new skipper is widely respected across the club and will play an imporant role in the dressing room as the link between the players and coaching staff.
Evans admits it's a priviege to take over the captancy and aims to do things differently to his former friend and team mate.
"It's the first time I've been captain of a club," said the new Albion skipper. "Darren is a close friend of mine and hopefully I can follow in his footsteps and do things the right way.
"I'm sure I'll approach some things in maybe a different way to Darren.
"You're either that type of character or you're not and I think I've always had that sort of character, even as a young lad.
"It's the off-the-pitch things you have to take care of. We've got quite a close-knit dressing room anyway and I think everyone gets along so I don't think I'll have too many issues to worry about. But I'll be the spokesperson for the players."
