Alan Irvine admitted his side under performed as the Baggies went down 2-0 at home to in-form Newcastle United.
The Scot admitted Albion lacked any real intensity or tempo to their play as goals in each half brushed aside the Baggies.
Irvine made two changes to the side that beat Leicester with Victor Anichebe recalled in favour or Stephane Sessegnon and Youssouf Mulumbu coming in for the suspended Craig Gardner.
But neither were able to make any sort of impact as Alan Pardew’s side continued their resurgence.
"We didn't play well enough. We didn't play with the right tempo or intensity for long periods of the game,” Irvine told the post-match press conference.
"And then the periods when we did play we lost momentum.
"We gave away a few fouls in quick succession and then Newcastle scored before half-time.
"There wasn't much in the game at that point. I thoughr it would peter out and be 0-0 at half-time. Their goal was a big boost for them and a blow for us.
"But ultimately we simply didn't perform well enough. We didn't play as well as we can do."
