Albion's pursuit of a specialist left back looks set to continue after Leicester City decided against selling Jeffrey Schlupp.
The Baggies were believed to be close to a £12m deal for the Ghana international and hoped to complete a deal before the weekend.
But after talks between Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri and the 23-year-old the deal looks to off.
Schlupp was believed to be open to a move to The Hawthorns to guarantee more game time.
But with the Foxes still involved in four competitions, Ranieri has informed Schlupp he will not be sold this transfer window.
The news will come as a blow to Albion boss Tony Pulis, who had earmarked Schlupp as one of five new faces he wants to bring to the club before the end of the month.
Albion may now turn their attention to another left-back on their radar, Leeds' Charlie Taylor. Although the defender is in the last year of his contract and has submitted a transfer request, Leeds remain keen on keeping last season's player of the year.
