Albion's bid to bring Benfica's Portuguese international striker Ariza Makukula to The Hawthorns has today faltered after the 27-year-old turned down the Baggies' contract offer.
Although a deal had been agreed with his club until the end of the season it's believed Makukula's wage demands have seen the former Sevilla striker return back to Lisbon and Albion to other targets.
"There was an agreement between West Brom and Benfica but I went to the club and I didn't like their offer," the DR Congo born forward revealed.
"I respect the club but I didn't want to be part of their project.
"The coach was friendly, the club is well-organised, but I don't think it's a good fit for me."
