Gareth McAuley has signed a new one-year contract at The Hawthorns to extend his Albion career beyond his 36th birthday.
The commanding centre half was official released from the club after his former contract expired at the end of last season.
It was rumoured that McAuley was in talks with the newly promoted clubs and Leicester City but the giant defender now looks set to end his career with the Baggies.
I am really pleased, it is what I wanted to extend my stay here,” the Northern Ireland international told the club’s official website.
“It feels like home really. I’ve had a great time here. I wasn’t looking to go anywhere else and I’m looking forward to a new challenge in the 12 months ahead.
“It is the highest level I’ve played at. I’ve had four great years in the Premier League and am looking forward to another one.
“I’ve been here quite a long time, there are lots of good people at the training ground behind the scenes.
“I really enjoy it and feel really settled and happy here and I’m delighted that that continues for another 12 months.”
The former Lincoln, Leicester and Ipswich defender is now targeting the 50-point mark as he intends to improve on last season’s performance.
“We should aim high - for a better points tally than we’ve had previously and at least a top half finish or above,” he added.
“Possibly getting across the 50 point mark which we’ve not managed to do in my four seasons here, and also good cup runs.”
After McAuley’s new deal, Albion are now set to open talks with long-serving midfielder James Morrison.
The Scotland international will enter the final year of his contract next season with the club looking to secure the services of the 29-year-old on a long-term deal.
