Megson: It was men against boys

After suffering their worst defeat at the Hawthorns for 125 years Megson admitted it was a defeat that he had been waiting to happen.

"It was men against boys. It just looked, the way the club has been over the last couple of weeks, it was something that was coming," said Megson.

"Because we are an already relegated team we have not got a great deal to play for against a fantastic side with a great deal to play for and that is how it looked.

"If we don't play at full tilt that is the kind of thing that can happen to us. We came up against a very, very good side today. We just couldn't handle Owen.

"It could have been double figures. Russell Hoult has made two or three one-on-one saves, there was at times over-elaboration from the Liverpool forwards which could have made it even worse.

"We have been an accident waiting to happen and today it was an almighty collision."
