Ivory Coast international defender Abdoulaye Meite has finally returned to full training after being sidelined for almost ten weeks with a niggling calf injury.
The former Bolton defender broke down during the warm-up to the Aston Villa game back in September after limping off at his old club at half-time four games into this Baggies career.
Now Baggies boss Tony Mowbray is keeping his fingers crossed the £2 million pound summer signing can force his way back into his thoughts and prove his fitness ahead of Saturday's clash with Chelsea (KO 5.30pm).
"I think Meite's got a chance for the weekend," said Mowbray.
"He will train this week, I'm pretty sure, and then I'll discuss with him on Thursday or Friday as to how he feels.
"We hope there is no recurrence.
"The bottom line is that he needs to get fit to compete for a place in the team."
Mowbray also had positive news regarding James Morrison and Marek Cech who missed the trip to Anfield with respective back and illness problems.
"James has got a sore back," he continued.
"We're hopeful he'll be training this week but you can never tell with backs.
"They can come and go.
"It's a wait-and-see scenario.
"We hope he's back for the weekend."
