Returning striker Ishmael Miller insists he won’t be held back by the memories of his injury nightmare as he heads towards a return to full fitness. The powerful 22-year-old had spent 13-months on the sidelines but returned for an impressive 13-minute cameo during the 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Miller had only featured during a 45-minute spell for a specially arranged friendly prior to Friday night’s defeat but has now set his sights on a full mental and physical recovery.
"I knew my knee was strong enough but maybe it was about mentally whether I thought I was right," the former Manchester City hitman admitted.
"I am one of those players who tend to forget things quickly.
"So if there was a challenge there to be made I would probably make it, even though I wouldn't want to make it if I thought about it.
"I think that's how you've got to be otherwise you will get injured."
The former England Under-21 international striker now hopes to build on his substitute appearance in the coming weeks but has stressed he won’t be rushing for an immediate return.
"I just want to get as many games as possible and try to get as sharp as possible for the start of next season," the striker continued.
"Next season is probably when I will be back at my best again but I just want to get as many games as possible.
"Whatever I get this season and however well I do is a bonus, but really it's just about trying to get on the pitch and get games under my belt."
