James Morrison has been invited back to pre-season training to prove his fitness ahead of a new deal.
The Scottish international is out of contract at the end of this month and spent most of last season injured with an Achilles injury.
But Baggies boss Darren Moore has been impressed with Morrison's attempts to get fit over the summer and will now take a closer look next week at Albion's longest serving player.
“James has been training tirelessly throughout the summer and will join the first team next week,” said Morro.
“He has been frustrated by an Achilles injury for some time now but he is beginning to benefit from the endless hard work he has put in behind the scenes.
“We will be monitoring him in the coming weeks and we hope his improving fitness will result in game time in our pre-season fixtures.”
