Tony Mowbray fears he could face a battle to keep Filipe Teixeira at West Brom should his side miss out on promotion to the Premier League.Teixeira, a £600,000 summer signing from Portuguese side Academica de Coimbra, was in imperious form as Albion brushed aside Midlands rivals 10-man Coventry 4-0 at the Ricoh Arena on Monday night to return to second place in the Championship. The classy midfield playmaker scored two goals and made another for Robert Koren as the Baggies sent out a message they are ready to go one better than last season's play-off final defeat to Derby. That failure at Wembley on May 28 heralded an exodus of West Brom's star players. Goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, defender Paul McShane, playmaker Jason Koumas and top scorer Diomansy Kamara all turned their backs on another season of Championship football in favour of signing for Premier League clubs. Manager Mowbray is all too aware the same thing could happen with Teixeira should Albion fail again in their quest to return to the top flight.
He said: "There have been several Premier League scouts at a number of our matches this season and I am sure some of them will have been watching Filipe Teixeira. He showed his quality again (against Coventry) and, if the same thing happens as last season, it might be interesting to see what develops. He is having an excellent season for us, he has adapted to the English game very well and, if he continues in he same vein, I think he is a player who could play at a higher level. Not many people will have known that much about him when we brought him over here, but they sure do now. We wanted a player who could put his foot on the ball, control the game, get his head up and pick a pass to split defences and he ticks all of those boxes."
