Youssouf Mulumbu’s impressive start to the season has been rewarded with the midfielder signing a new deal – despite only signing his first deal at the start of the summer with the club.

The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has been instrumental in helping the Baggies remain unbeaten this season and scored his first Albion goal against Ipswich last weekend.

The combative 22-year-old was arguably Albion’s most consistent performer throughout pre-season and has continued his fine form this term.  Mulumbu initially signed on loan back in January but had to wait until April to make his first start after injury.

He went on to make an additional two starts, plus three appearances from the bench, in the Premier League and made a permanent switch for £175,000 in the summer – despite not knowing Albion’s next manager.

“I'm pleased with how Youssouf has started the season and he is very much part of our plans,” said Roberto Di Matteo.

"He's an exciting, young, holding midfielder who will hopefully keep improving."

The DR Congo international has signed an improved two-year contract, plus an additional year in the club’s favour.
