Youssouf Mulumbu has thanked Albion fans after being released from the club after six seasons with the Baggies.

Albion decided not to activate a further year’s option on Mulumbu with the fan’s favourite deemed curplus to requirements at The Hawthorns.

Talking to the official website, Mulumbu recalled how he had never even heard about West Bromwich Albion when he first joined from Paris St Germain but quickly fell into love with life in the Black Country.

“I came to a place I didn't know - I didn't know Birmingham, I knew nothing about West Bromwich. But it's been a pleasure to learn so much about the city, the football club and England,” said Mulumbu.

“I discovered the football club, the people, the passion. I've grown to like the place. I've enjoyed it for six years and I just want to say thank you to all of the fans.

“They have always been behind me, supported me, sang my song. Even if they criticised me, I always felt it would help me improve my game.”

Mulumbu added that his favourite memories at The Hawthorns include goals against local rivals Birmingham City and Astron Villa. But although his Hawthorns career is not over, he hopes one day to hear his song sang again.

“Am I better than Kaka? ...I wish,” he joked.

“So many people have asked me and I LOVE that song - I really love it. I don't think I am (better than Kaka), but if the fans want to sing that then yes...ok. I hope they think I am. I thank them for that song. I hope to hear it if, hopefully when, I come back next season with my new club.”
