Albion vice-captain Jonas Olsson is expected to sign a contract extension at The Hawthorns after his solid start to the season. One of a few stand-out performers last season in the Premier League, the former NEC Nijmegen defender has continued his rich vein of form this term helping Albion to an unbeaten league start to the season.
The former Swedish Under-21 international only joined the club last season but has already been rewarded with an improved deal after a number of wholehearted and no-nonsense displays at the heart of Albion’s defence.
“Talks between the club and Jonas' representatives have gone very well," said Sporting and Technical Director, Dan Ashworth.
"There are a few loose ends to tie up but Jonas is very happy here.
"He has become a key figure both on the field and in the dressing room."
Olsson already had another year, plus a year in the club’s favour, remaining on his original deal and is happy to commit his future to the Baggies until the end of 2012/13 season.
“I had two years left and will sign for an additional two,” said Jonas.
“There are just one or two things left to sort out, but it should happen soon.
“I really enjoy it at the club and have got a great deal. I have an important role in the team and it feels good to have the support from the new manager. I feel that I am one of the cornerstones of the team.”
