Pulis disappointed after United defeat

Tony Pulis felt disappointed for his players after the Baggies lost 2-0 at Manchester United despite a hard working effort.

Second half goals from Jesse Lingard and a late Juan Mata penalty put Albion to the sword with Pulis again pointing the finger at individual errors.

The head coach singled out Chris Brunt’s misplaced header for United’s first and then the positioning by Claudio Yacob in the lead up to the second goal.

“The first goal was a poor one to concede. We had three people in between the goal and Claudio decided to join the line, which he didn't have to, and it left Lingard on the edge of the box.

“It was a poor header from Brunty but if Yac came across he would've picked it up. It's always small margins against the big teams and when that happens they'll punish you.

“Our plan was to keep it tight for the first-half in the hope the game would open up during the second-half and if there's a chance you want to drop to someone then it would be Saido - he missed a great opportunity for us.

“We played the wingers on the opposite half in the first half because we wanted to be stronger in the middle and after the break we swapped them round to give McClean and Sessegnon more opportunities to get forward.

“I'm disappointed for the players. They kept their discipline and shape but we were playing top class players and they punished us.”
