Tony Pulis bemoaned Albion's slow start after suffered his first defeat as Baggies boss
Albion found themselves two goals down inside 15 minutes after Christian Eriksson's fine free kick and Harry Kane waltzed passed Andre Wisdom to double Spurs' advantage.
The Baggies saw Hugo Lloris make two good saves before Kane scored his second from the spot after Lescott had handled.
"The first 20 minutes were poor. I felt we started sloppy and gave the ball away too many times, didn’t play with any tempo and you’ve got to play with tempo, especially at home because you need the support behind you," Pulis said.
"We gave them a two goal lead and that was disappointing. We needed a goal and to be fair their goalkeeper was absolutely fantastic.
"If you look at the opportunities and the chances and then look at the saves he made, especially the two before half-time. They were wonderful saves.
"And even in the second half we had good opportunities and chances and they got a penalty for a third goal which killed it.
"If we could have got a goal to make it 2-1 it would have lifted us and it would have put more pressure on them. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
"This week was a difficult week in lots of respects because of the window and you are doing stuff to try and line up and bring players in.
"It’s difficult for myself but we have got to get on and we have got to bounce back. We have to make sure that when we do play at home we play to a tempo.
"After 20 minutes we raised the tempo and I thought
the tempo was better and we got after them and we stopped them from playing out and we played some good stuff.
"The opportunities we had... it was disappointing we didn’t score off the free-kick that we worked around the box. The breaks went for them and didn’t go for us.”
