Late on Friday night 21-year-old Reuben Reid became Albion’s third signing of the summer after joining from Rotherham for an undisclosed fee. The former Plymouth trainee follows Simon Cox and Youssouf Mulumbu into The Hawthorns as Roberto Di Matteo looks to make his mark on Albion’s squad.
Reid, who scored 19 goals for the Millers last season, is seen by Di Matteo as a future star at The Hawthorns with Rotherham fans having mixed feelings on the departure of last season’s leading goalscorer.
“I’m non fussed,” Richard Gaynor, editor of MillersMad said.
“We had him for one year and the fans never really took to him even though he scored a few. It’s good money in the bank for us.”
Although only a youngster the striker, who can also play wide-right, has already featured for seven different teams and has gained a reputation for his reported attitude problems.
“He’s undoubtedly got the talent but he’s also got a big attitude,” Richard continued.
“If he wants it enough he can do it. A lot of fans believe he’s moved on too early, and should have learned his trade a bit more with the Millers rather than WBA reserves.
The Bristol born man boasts an impressive scoring record hitting the target 24 times in 51 starts, plus 33 appearances from the bench, with the pacy forward scoring a variety of goals during his short career.
“Reid is a lazy goalscorer. He does nothing for 87 minutes then bangs one in,” said Richard.
“He’s still got a lot to learn, but if he gets head down and applies himself you might see him play a part (this season).”
