"I've spoken to Sir Alex (Ferguson) and he told me he will be speaking to Kieran and his dad now they are back from Japan," Robson told the club's official website.
"I'll definitely know by the end of the week if Kieran can join us on loan or whether he'll be a United player next season.
"It's 50-50 at the moment, but if we don't get him I feel we're covered because I've brought Richard Chaplow and Darren Carter in since I've been here and Diomansy Kamara can also play on the left or right as well."
