Albion head coach Roberto Di Matteo has played down the importance of the Baggies’ trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday insisting the result will have no outcome come the end of the season.
After seven Championship games the Baggies are the only unbeaten side in the division although sit only a point above Middlesbrough at the top of the table. Both sides have made a good start after relegation last season, and although the Teeside club had a number of high-profile exits in the summer, Di Matteo believes they are one of the strongest teams in the division.
"I think they have a strong team for the Championship," said the former MK Dons chief.
"They look strong, especially at home, and have good players.
"It's a good club.
"They have signed Sean St Ledger and Caleb Folan so Gareth has strengthened their team.
"It will have to be seen what kind of impact these players have on their team, and how effective they will be for him.
"I still think they have a good squad.
"I don't think this game will decide anything though.
"It's too early in the season."
