Roy Hodgson was pleased his long-awaited return to Craven Cottage didn’t disappoint him.
The former Fulham boss was given a warm reception on his return to the Cottage and saw his Albion side earn a well deserved point after Somen Tchoyi came off the bench to equalise late on.
It was Hodgson’s side who enjoyed the best chances on a cold night in London with Peter Odemwingie and Marc Antonie Fortune both having good opportunities to open the scoring.
But it was the eye-catching Clint Dempsey who opened the scoring in the 70th minute when Brian Ruiz found him excellently in the area and the American drove past Ben Foster.
Tchoyi was sent on with 13 minutes remaining for Simon Cox and scored with almost his first touch after James Morrison’s delicate flick.
The draw moved Albion eight points clear of the relegation zone and continued their impressive form on the road.
"I was really quite pleased with the performance if you take away the last five minutes," said Hodgson.
"I thought we did our best to let them back into the game after, for large periods, being fully in control, to be quite frank.
"When they did score, it was the result of one or two errors around our box that let them in.
"They took advantage and made it 1-0.
"Then you think 'oh dear, that could be harsh on us'.
"When we got back to 1-1 you think at least justice has been done.
"In the final five or six minutes, every time we got the ball out in good positions we gave it back to them and gave them another chance.
"These things are sent to try us.
"Furthermore, I think it's fair to say we haven't really been that lucky this season.
"Our 26 points is quite a poor return in some ways for what the team has been able to do.
"Missing those three to five points we could easily have had affects confidence.
"But it's nice to come here and get a point.
"I was absolutely delighted with the way we played."
