Royle didn't however think Tyne and Wear official Mr Laws had a bad game.
"We have conceded seven goals and six points this season to a team that may go up as champions," he said after the game.
"We have played very well today, but for the first goal Horsfield was holding Matt Elliott.
"For the third goal Horsfield was two yards offside when the ball was played in. The two decisions have cost us.
"I don't think the referee had a bad game. It is not 'Royle slams ref', it is just a statement of incidents.
"I shall give him a decent overall mark."
