Diafra Sakho will not become Albion’s record signing after the club shelved the deal at the 11th hour.
Although Sakho passed Albion’s medical and all scans returned without any significant issues, Sakho’s basic fitness levels were questioned with the striker believed to be some way short of match fitness.
Sakho pulled out of West Ham’s pre-season tour with back injury. The striker also missed a large part of last season with a thigh injury.
Albion want a striker who partner Salomon Rondon up front with Saido Berahino expected to depart to either Stoke or Crystal Palace.
But with Sakho some weeks away from full fitness, Albion would be left with only Rondon and Rickie Lambert in the striker department.
The Baggies are now left with the task of finding a suitable replacement with only eight days left before the start of the season.
Should Albion have taken a gamble on Sakho after the club had agreed a deal and personal terms with the player? Have your say at Baggies Banter.
