Scott gets Corrigan's approval

When it comes to goalkeeping Joe Corrigan knows a thing or two about standing between 'the sticks'. The former Manchester City and England stopper has worked with some of England's finest goalkeepers during his time as a coach and believes that Albion have the country's No.1 in their ranks: Scott Carson.

The former Leeds and Liverpool man was recalled into Fabio Capello's England squad to face Kazakhstan at Wembley tomorrow and Belarus on Wednesday after an eight-month absence from the national team. The 23-year-old, who played last season at Aston Villa, is now 'back on track' according to Corrigan and has been in fine form this season conceding just seven goals in as many games.

"Scott is at the top," said the Albion goalkeeping coach, who won nine caps himself.

"I keep referring to his age but he has surprised me.

"He was on one of my lists when I was at Liverpool and he joined the club as I left.

"His Croatia mistake is all in the past.

"People have to realise, and I didn't at the time, that he was only 21 years of age then.

"He can't do anything about it and I was taught at a very early age that if you start dwelling on things the next thing you will do is make another mistake.

"You have to move on and get on with things and try to do your best.

"He has done that.

"He was in a situation at Liverpool where he was out on loan at various clubs and that was another situation that he had to deal with.

"He was in limbo at Liverpool.

"When he was at Aston Villa, in the back of his mind, he would still have been thinking 'where am I going to be? Am I going to get into the first team at Liverpool?'

"Things were going on in his head away from what was going on the pitch with the England situation.

Joe added: "He has taken it on the chin and since he joined us he has been fantastic to work with.

"Now he has moved here permanently and is part of a very good club, which is also a very good family.

"There are great people to work with and a great squad of players.

"He has now got an aim, which is first to be No.1 for Albion and then to be No.1 for England.

"He is back on track."
