Shan pleased with convincing Preston win

James Shan admits it was a welcome return to The Hawthorns after back-to-back away defeats.

The Baggies were comfortable winners against potential new boss Alex Neil's Preston side.

A Dwight Gayle hattrick and a Jay Rodriguez goal eased the away defeats to Milwall and Briston City.

Gayle opened the scoring when a wonderful Chris Brunt pass saw him slot home from close range.

He then doubled the scoring when his effort somehow found a way under Preston keeper Declan Rudd.

Rodriguez then ensured Albion mirrored Bristol City's 3-0 half time lead from Tuesday night when he poked home a third in the 43rd minute.

Gayle then completed his hattrick when he headed home from underneath the cross bar after a Chris Brunt corner.

“I’m delighted with the goals we have scored, with the three points and also to bounce back after our defeats last week," Shan said.

“It was important thing to do in front of the home fans today.

“We’ve put in a very good performance and it’s pleasing to score four goals.

“I think the performance was as dominant as the scoreline was. I think it was a convincing one."
