Peter Odemwingie claims he would welcome another striker joining the club during the January transfer window.
Albion were close to securing a loan deal for Villa striker John Carew last week and are currently monitoring a number of targets.
The Nigerian striker is already in competition with Marc-Antonie Fortune, Ishmael Miller, Roman Bednar and Simon Cox for a starting berth for the Baggies. But Odemwingie says the additional of another striker would simply mean him raising his own standards to keep his name in the starting XI.
"Every team has competition between players," he said
"It's something that must be there and we have it now.
"I'm not the only player but just at the moment I'm confident in front of goal.
"Tomorrow it might be someone else.
"If someone else comes in, and he's good, then maybe I will need to do extra - I know that."
