Tony Pulis praised the character and composer of his Albion side after watching the Baggies beat champions Chelsea 3-0 in the club’s final home fixture.
Saido Berahino opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a long-range curling effort to end an eight-game run without a goal. The young striker doubled Albion’s advantage seconds into the second half after he was felled in the area and smashed home the resulting penalty.
Chris Brunt then capped a memorable team performance when he smashed home from the edge of the area on the hour mark.
Afterwards, Pulis reflected on an excellent run of results for Albion – including wins at Old Trafford and draws against Liverpool and Newcastle.
He said: “I’m really pleased. It was a great performance and great result.
“It’s a great finish. We’ve finished 13th in the table.
“Chelsea helped us a little tonight with Fabregas’ sending off but it’s a great result for us.”
When Pulis arrived at the club in January the Baggies were hovering above the relegation zone. But the former Crystal Palace and Stoke manager has guided Albion to 25 points from 17 league games.
“It didn’t help my blood pressure when we got beat by QPR and Leicester at home. Those games were really disappointing and a blow,” Pulis added.
“But we’ve got together again and worked really hard on the shape of the team to make ourselves difficult to beat and there’s some quality in the team as well.
“All in all, it’s a great finish and I’m very happy for the supporters, who have been fantastic this year.”
