Albion’s reserves hit a perfect ten against their Burton counterparts last night to go second in the totesport.com Central League Central Division. The Baggies sent a strong side over east Staffordshire with Dean Kiely, Leon Barnett, Shelton Martis, Chris Wood, Roman Bednar and Reuben Reid all starting for the second-string.
Burton, previously unbeaten so far this season, were behind after 13 minutes when Reuben Reid ran clear of the home defence to slot home past former Blues ‘keeper Kevin Poole. It was two five minutes before the break after Shelton Martis scored with a header before the Baggies went goal crazy.
Reid and Martis doubled their tallies with Chris Wood also scoring a brace and Roman Bednar, Lateef Elford-Alliyu, Paul Downing and Leon Barnett all troubling the scorers.
“The lads put in a fantastic performance as the scoreline suggests," said reserve team manager Michael Appleton.
"Even when we were 9-0 up we were still harrying and pressing from front to back.
"It was a fantastic team display and the work-rate was just as good.
"I've been on the end of a few hidings myself and it's not a nice feeling.
"But the lads were still very respectful and it was a really professional performance."
