Albion returned to the top of the Championship in style after blowing away Cardiff City 4-2 at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies bounced back from their first defeat of the season in midweek with goals from Matheus Pereira and Grady Diagana before the break.
Charlie Austin’s long wait for his first league goal came in the 70th minute before a quick fire double from City sub Danny Ward gave Cardiff hope of an unexpected equaliser.
But Romaine Sawyers popped up in stoppage time to fire his first goal for the club after his summer move from Brentford.
All eyes were on the Baggies to see how they would react to their first defeat of the season. But Slaven Bilic’s men had no hangover from their defeat at Elland Road and produced their best performance of the season.
Austin, who was twice denied before he finally found the net, impressed up top alongside Diagana and Pereira – the former who opened the scoring before setting up two other goals.
Such was Albion’s dominance against the Bluebirds that Bilic will be disappointed his side took their foot off their gas and allowed the visitors back into the game.
But despite a lapse in concentration for ten minutes, Albion fans enjoyed a scintillating performance with the Baggies looking threatening up top and with Jake Livermore again imposing himself on the game with a strong performance in the middle.
