Albion were unfortunate not to record their second win of the season after a spirited 1-1 draw against high-flying Norwich at Carrow Road.
For only the second game the season, Albion took the lead when Dara O'Shea was left unmarked at the back post to head home Jon Swift's free kick.
Swift was then bundled over in the area by a Grant Hanley challenge that was waved away by referee Thomas Bramall.
The Baggies were good value for their lead with Jake Livermore having one of his best Albion performances in recent times and Eric Pieters impressing on his debut.
However, Bramall was again the centre of attention when he allowed Sam Bryam's effort to stand with the ball clearly connecting with his arm before diverting past David Button.
