West Brom striker Jason Roberts spared the blushes of his team-mate Darren Moore to salvage a point against ten-man Birmingham City at the Hawthorns.
Albion, who had dominated proceedings for long spells only to be denied by the Birmingham goalkeeper Nico Vaesen, fell behind after 84 minutes when the unfortunate Moore turned the ball into his own net.
Roberts came to Albion's rescue three minutes later with a face-saving equaliser but Gary Megson's side should really have taken all three points.
They were frustrated by Vaesen who performed heroically in the second half to deny Lee Marshall, Scott Dobie and Neil Clement.
His starring role looked set to earn Birmingham a shock win when the visitors took the lead against the run of play - three minutes after Olivier Tebily had been sent-off for collecting his second booking following a foul on Roberts.
In a rare Birmingham attack - their only other chance to score had come after 74 minutes when Stern John hit the post - midfielder Darryl Powell whipped over a cross that bounced off the post and on to the shoulder of the Albion goalkeeper Russell Hoult.
The loose ball then flew into the back of the net off the hapless Moore.
The freak goal seemed destined to send Albion crashing to their fifth successive League and Cup defeat.
But that would have been rough justice on a dominant Albion side.
The impressive Roberts had other ideas and he capped a highly impressive display with a classy piece of finishing to secure a point with his third goal of the season.
Roberts, a constant thorn in the side of the Birmingham defence, was released by a ball down the left wing from full back Neil Clement.
The Grenadan international then used his pace to speed past the Birmingham defence and curl his shot around Vaesen who - for once was left helpless
