Chris Wood's first goal for West Bromwich Albion set the seal on their return to the top of the Championship as they battled their way past Doncaster Rovers at The Hawthorns.
The 17-year-old New Zealand international striker let fly from 25 yards in the 85th minute as Albion leapfrogged over Newcastle United to regain the initiative at the top of the table.
Albion did it the hard way as they had to overcome the shock of falling behind to a seventh minute strike from Waide Fairhurst to seal their success.
Swedish central defender Jonas Olsson grabbed a 20th minute equaliser before putting Albion on course for their fifth win in seven league games with a second goal after 65 minutes.
But it was far from a comfortable success for Roberto Di Matteo's unbeaten side despite the final scoreline.
Doncaster enjoyed plenty of possession but ultimately lacked the cutting edge to make that pay.
For the second successive game at The Hawthorns, Albion made life difficult for themselves by falling behind in the opening exchanges.
They were caught cold when John Oster picked out the on-loan Billy Sharp in the penalty area and he exchanged passes with Fairhurst.
He then played the ball across the face of goal and Fairhurst had the simple task of steering home his shot from six yards.
Albion's response was not exactly swift but they did only need 13 minutes to haul themselves back on to level terms as Doncaster were caught out by a corner from Graham Dorrans.
The Scottish midfielder's cross eluded the Doncaster defence and was met by the head of Olsson, who made no mistake at the far post despite the best attempts of Oster to keep the ball out.
While Doncaster's failure to take advantage of their possession was crucial, their inability to defend at set-pieces ultimately proved to be their undoing.
Once again, it was a cross from Dorrans that Doncaster were unable to deal with.
Dorrans swept in a free-kick from the left wing that the on-rushing Olsson met with another header that flew past goalkeeper Neil Sullivan.
Doncaster, who have won just once this season, could still have dragged themselves back on to level terms but the unmarked Adam Lockwood failed to convert a corner from Martin Woods 11 minutes from time before Wood sealed their fate in spectacular style.
